Jack Vettriano...Artist...

My love for art is passionate and runs deep. It's like a hunger that I am always seeking to satisfy. I enjoy many styles of art from many time periods. Today I want to share some about my favorite living artist.

Jack Vettriano was born in Scotland in 1951 and grew up in a seaside town. Amazingly, he is a self-taught artist; having never painted before recieving a set of watercolor paints from his girlfriend on his 21st birthday. Fourteen years passed before he felt secure and comfortable enough in his work to share them with the world.

Some of Vettriano's paintings are Beach settings; often with umbrellas in his scenes. Almost always you can sense the romanticism in his work.

His most popular painting is The Singing Butler, seen above, selling more posters and postcards than any other artist in the UK. Vettriano’s sales broke a record at Sotheby’s, and he has outsold Dali, Van Gogh and Monet.

November 1999, Vettriano’s work was shown for the first time in New York. His popularity as Britain's self-taught artist has landed him the nickname "The People's Painter." There has been five books written about Jack Vettriano, of which, unfortunately, I own none of.

I find his work to be intense and gentle... both at the same time. A strange concept to wrap your mind around, I know, but true enough for me all the same. Vettriano has the unique ability to bring his subjects to life and you're soon finding yourself being drawn into his world... Somehow you can hear what his subjects are saying, thinking, feeling. And without giving it a thought, you're soon empathizing with them. I find the entire experience to be strong and enchanting and certainly not something that I wish to shy away from.

I hope that you've enjoyed seeing some of my favorite paintings by my favorite artist. To view more from his collection, go here. Or visit Vettriano at his website.

Until another time... Pearl

Pearl, I received my Parasol Swap Package today, and I absolutely LOVED everything in it!!! It took pictures and posted them all on my blog! You outdid yourself...I hope you weren't disappointed in mine! I think you did a much better job...I tried! :) My children and I were eating lunch, when it arrived and they were as excited as I was! The post card was my favorite and I cried, when I read the history behind the little treasure! I am going to frame it with the "Ephesians" tag. THANK YOU so much! It made my day! Hugs & love, Rhonda ;)

Pearl, I have never heard of him before. I will look for his work from now on. The paintings are romantic and stunning.

Thank you for visiting me back. I loved what you wrote. You are very honest and it encourages me to hear things like that. I see things in my kids, too, that need improvement. Prayer is the key and living by example. You and your husband are a good parents. God is faithful. I'm so greatful we can rest on His promises.

Have a wonderful Wednesday. Kathi
